The ignorance is on the part of the customers who have no idea how their vehicles work. The garages know this, and take advantage of it. If people were more educated about how these processes are done, and knew what to look for, the garages wouldn't have as much room for dishonesty. It takes two to tango. Im so fed up with garages and their dishonesty, you take your car to a 'professional' because you are not skilled enough in that area to sort it out for yourself and they blatently lie to you - Imagine going to a doctor 'Im concerned about this lump on my elbow' - 'Yes Im afraid you foot will need amputating!' lol @Jamison – Unfortunately I think you are right in thinking would they have actually done the work in the end anyway! I went to a Jiffy Lube while on vacation recently for an oil change. They recommended other work that "needed to be done ASAP". Naturally I declined. When I returned from vacation I took the car to my mechanic who told me none of what they recommended was necessary.
